5~7 mm - 108 Beads

Bone mala beads are used in practice because the more that death is contemplated the more fruitful life becomes. One would begin to live life differently when one accepts that death is inevitable. Malas of bone that is carved into skulls are highly suggested for those doing wrathful practices.

This mala is made from hand carved Yak bone. Yak is an important animal in Tibet as they are used as packing animals for the nomadic tribes. The Tibetans honor their passing by creating these beautiful malas and using them in their meditative practice so that the animals can continue to be of service as they pass from this consciousness to another. All the yak bones used in our jewelry are the leftover from the domestic population that died from natural causes.

In Tantric Buddhism malas have 108 beads used to count mantras one mala counts as 100 and the eight extra are to be dedicated to all sentient beings the practice as a whole is dedicated at its end as well. Some practices suggest that you use a certain kind of mala for counting the chants that are part of that specific practice. Many people like to wear a mala on their wrist, which should always be on the left hand.
